Today I boogied on out to the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy to take pictures of the Floats in the Pioneer Day Float preview.
The float preview offers a better chance to photograph floats than the main parade. The floats are stationary in an air conditioned room. The set up allows people to wander around the floats. The biggest challenge is the poor lighting and crowds.
I suspect that professional photographers and the media are allowed a separate showing. I think the people crowded around the float adds context. I think it would be cool to have long exposure shots with the people fading into blurs around the floats.
My main goal in this project was work on the publishing process so that I could get the photos up on the web within 24 hours of taking them.
BTW, I figured out how to morph pictures into bubbles with Corel Photo Shop. I put a squashed bubble view of one of the floats on my main blog.
